Luigi Antonio Baldassini (1649 - 1720), a valuable composer and virtuoso interpreter, is today mostly unknown to the wide audience but enjoyed considerable fame within the most cultured circles in Rome during the baroque period. His musical training took place at the Philharmonic Academy of Bologna. Once he moved to Rome, he was in the service of Cardinal Benedetto Panfili and at the same time a pupil of the famous violinist and composer Arcangelo Corelli.
