The tomb was originally constructed for Ramesses V, but was later usurped by his uncle, Ramesses VI. It is one of the largest tombs in the Valley of the Kings, and is decorated with scenes from the Book of the Dead and other funerary texts. The tomb was robbed in antiquity, but the mummies of both Ramesses V and Ramesses VI were later found and moved to the Egyptian Museum in Cairo.
