HEAVENLY ANGEL, The Penguins, Original Sound #54 1965
Flipside: BIG BOBO'S PARTY TRAIN Here is another great uncharted song from my collection. The Penguins hailed from Los Angeles, CA. When they formed in 1953 the group members were Cleve Duncan, Dexter Tisby, Curtis Williams and Bruce Tate. Their members changed through the years. They only had 1 song charted nationally on Billboard, their signature song, EARTH ANGEL - Dootone #348 -- 1954. It charted in February 1955 for 15 weeks and reached #8. The Penguins went on to record many great songs on different record labels: Mercury, Wing, Atlantic, Dooto, Sun State, Original Sound. The song EARTH ANGEL was covered by many artists/groups through the years. It is a real classic!
Cleve Duncan would also record and sing lead with the female vocal group The Radiants in 1959.
Singing on HEAVENLY ANGEL members are Cleve Duncan, Walter Saulsberry, Vera Walker and sisters Vesta & Evelyn King (from The Radiants.)
Enjoy HEAVENLY ANGEL with Cleve Duncan's unmistakable lead voice, its beautiful string arrangements and the great female background vocals by the King sisters and Vera Walker.
