Kazuhira Takeshita was born in August 1933 in the village of Shokazu in the Setouchi district of Amami island.He began studying the local shima uta folk music at the age of 12, and is considered as probably the leading exponent of Amami island music. He is joined by Nobuko Hayata, born in 1947, her father is a well known singer. Kodoko Nabekana Bushi is about an undutiful daughter Nabekana who makes her parents fetch water while she bathes, but the interpretation has changed to one whereby Nabekana is in fact a high ranking priestess with a connection to the legend of the heavenly maiden who descends to bathe and finds her garments have been removed.
