If you were to ask anyone from my generation who recorded Quiet Village, almost 100% of them would say Martin Denny. In 1959, the song peaked at #2 and was the #18 song of the year. But Les Baxter, who wrote the song, had the first recording in 1951. Martin's version had the exotic bird calls and whistles, but otherwise sounded a lot like the original.
