Xuanzang (Chinese: 玄奘; pinyin: Xuán Zàng; c. 602–664), or Xuanzang,[1] personal name Chen Hui (陳禕), also commonly known as Tang Sanzang (唐三藏) or Tang Seng (唐僧), was a Chinese Buddhist monk, one of the four greatest translators, specializing in translating Sanskrit scriptures into Chinese. He was also the founder of the Dharma-character school (zh. fǎxiàngzōng 法相宗), a form of the Yogacara school (zh. 唯識宗, sa. yogācāra, vijñānavāda) in China. The title Tripitaka was given by the Buddhist clergy to honor him as the one who mastered the entire Tripitaka of the Buddhist canon.
