Description
This performance was filmed in New Orleans by my late friend David Wiseman visiting from England on 20 April 2015. 'Variety Stomp' was composed in 1927 by Joe Trent, Fletcher Henderson and Bud Green. The band is still regularly playing this tune. It's good to be reminded how well they mastered it and how lustily they played it, right from when they first introduced it into their repertoire. As you can hear, it's a tricky piece, alternating between the key of G minor and its related major key, B flat.
